SHORT BIOGRAPHY:
Soprano Sandra Lopez de Haro has captivated audiences around the world with her critically acclaimed performances in a wide variety of roles which include the title roles of Tosca and Suor Angelica, Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly, Nedda in I Pagliacci, Catherine in Bolcom's A View from the Bridge, Liu in Turandot, Micaela in Carmen, Mimi in La Boheme, Tatiana in Eugene Onegin, Marguerite in Faust, Violetta in La Traviata, among others, with companies that include the Metropolitan Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Opera de Oviedo, Palm Beach Opera, Opera på Skäret, Fort Worth Opera, Virginia Opera, among many others. Ms. Lopez was selected for the acoustical testing of the new Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera at the Carnival Performing Arts Center in Miami, Florida, and also performed the role of Mimi in their Opening Night Gala Celebration.
After winning the prestigious Metropolitan Opera National Council Award, Ms. Lopez de Haro joined The Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program where she was assigned covers and performances of roles such as Catherine in A View from the Bridge, Marguerite in Faust, Liù in Turandot, Roberta Alden in the world premier of Tobias Picker’s An American Tragedy, Frasquita in Carmen, Tebaldo in Don Carlo, Fourth Maid in Elektra, Flowermaiden in Parsifal, among others.
As comfortable in concert as on the opera stage, Ms. Lopez de Haro has toured with Andrea Bocelli to critical acclaim and has performed the Verdi Requiem, Strauss' Four Last Songs, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Missa Solemnis, Gounod’s Saint Cecilia Mass and Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, as well as many Opera Galas and recitals with various Festivals and Symphonies, including The Fort Worth Symphony, Madison Symphony, Opera Pacific, Greensboro Symphony, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Puerto Rico Symphony, Queens Symphony Orchestra, Miami Chamber Society, Manchester Music Festival and the New Choral Society, among others.
Ms. Lopez de Haro has been the recipient of numerous prizes, awards, and grants. To name a few, these include winner of the Metropolitan Opera Competition, Grand Prize winner with the Florida Grand Opera Young Patroness Association, Career Grant Recipient from the George London Foundation and the Beau Bogan Foundation, World Finalist in the Luciano Pavarotti Competition.
Ms. Lopez de Haro has worked with many conductors including James Levine, Julius Rudel, Eduardo Müller, Valery Gergiev, Fabio Luisi, Yves Abel, Stewart Robertson, Anton Guadagno, Katherine Kelly, Dennis Russell Davies, Donald Runnicles, and Stephen Lord.
Ms. Lopez de Haro is also a lover of Spanish song repertoire and Zarzuela and performs concerts, recitals, galas, and fully-staged performances of this unique repertoire regularly
