January 2007

Mystery Park Arts/SoBe Music Institute is proud to announce the implementation of Music for Youth, our proprietary & unique after-school music immersion program, at South Point Elementary School on Miami Beach ( February thru May 2007):

South Point Elementary After-School Faculty

Ariana Ochoa, piano / Paul Martin, guitar / Oderlyn Gutiez, recorder-flute

During this program, professional musician/instructors will introduce musical principals based on one of four instruments, with a varied curriculum suited to a child's learning abilities. Since this is usually a child's first introduction to a structured music program, Mystery Park Arts creates a fun atmosphere of learning and experiencing music without intimidation. The unique and multifaceted immersion program is designed not only to be fun and exciting, but also to help the students develop a deepened sense of musical phrase, structure and form, as well as improve their performance skills. Curriculum components include the following:

  1. Children's Musical Journey - an interactive computer program which helps develop a student's understanding of music notes, rhythm, keyboard and structure of written music. The program gradually becomes more challenging through animated lessons, games and "recording" areas to make learning fun, while teachers assist as "guides on the side."

  1. Small Group Instrumental Lessons - Unlike after-school programs that emphasize group activities, a maximum of five students per instructor is recommended to ensure that appropriate attention will be given to each child.
  2. Interactive Rhythm Class - Each week instructors will lead students in rhythmic exercises to assist in learning the importance of rhythm and how to play together.
  3. Musicianship Workshop - a combination of written music theory, music listening/appreciation and ear training/sight singing for all students.
  4. Monthly Performances - once a month the students will come together and perform for and with each other. The music faculty will also have a chance to perform during this time, allowing the students to witness a professional performance.
  5. Final end of semester performance for friends, family and school.
