COMPOSER/PERFORMER'S WORKSHOPS
(10 Week Workshops & Private Study Starting in January 2007)

The Composer/Performer's Studio of South Beach is a tremendous learning and artistic experience for music students and professionals alike (concert composers, film composers, songwriters, music-theater composers and all performers) . Each week composers and performers gather in the studio to discuss, and play each others music under the supervision of professional composer Carson Kievman.

THE COMPOSER/PERFORMER'S WORKSHOP.....

  • Focuses on the composer or performer's work (composition or current project) and/or musical discourse skills (theory)
  • Participants enjoy group sessions where they present and discuss their own work (or work-in-progress) as well as discuss and analyze 20th and 21st century masterpieces in all styles and genres (from avant-garde to modern popular forms). The workshops culminate with the creation of new works (individually or collaboratively between studio members) and presented in a concert on South Beach.

The South Beach Composer/Performer Studio will operate in 5 Workshops per year. Each Workshop will last 10 weeks - - composers and performers may participate in one or all Workshops - - enrollment is limited to 10 Selected Participants per term

  • Studio Participation for 10 week term is $200 ($20 per week)
  • Private Composition Study or Performance Theory Session with Dr. Kievman for Studio Participants is $50 (weekly).

Out-of-state and International Participants Welcome (short term housing on Miami Beach can be arranged).

SoBe Music Studio (Miami's Institute for Performing Arts) was founded in 2005 by distinguished composer and professor Carson Kievman (PhD Princeton University, MFA California Institute of the Arts, composer-in-residence for the Tanglewood Music festival, the New York Shakespeare Festival, Donaueschingen Festival, NationalTheater Mannheim, the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra and the Pennsylvania Ballet, winner of multiple awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and The Florida Department of State, among others).
