Free Performance and Open Discussion about Electronic/Digital Music with Gustavo Matamoros

Come experience the new music world of electronic and digital sound performance.  Did you know that learning to control and perform with digital and electronic devices is very much like learning to play a traditional musical instrument?  Gustavo Matamoros is a composer/performer with 20 plus years experience with altered and conceptual  soundscapes and electronic music experimentation.  In other words, Matamoros has become a virtuosos by way of inspiration and very long and determined practice on his "instrument".

OPEN FRIDAY this week will include a special performance on digital/electronic instruments and an open discussion with the artist about what inspires his creations, how he has survived as one of the true experimentalists in the City of Miami environment and anything else you care to discuss with this wonderful musician.

This special entertaining and educational experience will be followed by refreshments and a chance to intermingle. 305-674-9220 or info@sobemusic.org - MA

Ever wonder how musicians prepare for a public concert? Join us for a unique glimpse behind the scenes this Friday while our faculty rehearse musical works that they have seen for the first time.  Watch them communicate with each other and piece together the music phrase by phrase.  Ask questions of the musicians even as they rehearse.  All questions from novices and musicians alike will be welcome.  You can even put in your "two-cents."  Follow the process as they work out each nuance step by step until the ensemble can play the music all the way through.  This special entertaining and educational experience will be followed by refreshments and a chance to mingle with the musicians and fellow participants.

*Mystery Park Arts developed its first initiative serving children in summer, 2006, with separate instrumental and choir programs in City of Miami parks.  The camp concluded with a Mayor's Summer Renaissance concert open to the public at the Miami-Dade College Wolfson Auditorium. During this school year, we have been successfully running a Music for Youth after-school program which meets twice weekly at South Pointe Elementary School.

It is well-documented that music education programs can successfully address diverse academic and social needs, such as: advancing  academic achievement due to transferrable study skills and enhanced self-esteem; developing attention skills, self-expression and physical dexterity; broadening one’s understanding and appreciation of the world; and improving abilities such as self-discipline, collaboration, communication with others, and creativity. 1

Music education opportunities are increasingly limited within the schools – especially for youth whose test scores are low – as arts electives are reduced. Quality music education outside of school is even more difficult to find, and still more difficult to afford, despite a variety of city and private programs. Our mission is to make music (and arts) education available to all.
